On December the 5th MONKEYTOWN RECORDS are proud to present the MONKEYTOWN FEST at the Berlin TEMPODROM. The plans have been on the drawing board for sometime, and now the perfect time has come. It’s no wonder, with the label turning five we have all the more reasons to celebrate with a massive bash.
Expect the unexpected. This special venue will play host to an
equally unique event. Not the usual club and DJ party, but rather a
concert night of a different kind.
MODERAT will play the final show of their successful 2014 tour at the MONKEYTOWN FEST.MODERAT’s second album “II“ (released on MONKEYTOWN RECORDS) combines the melodic contours of APPARAT with the stark power of MODESELEKTOR’s pulsating basslines and thumping drum loops. They have charmed audiences Europe wide playing packed concert halls full of happy punters.
THE NOTWIST will join MODERAT on stage; these so-called old concert hands are always very much anticipated. Despite coming from different musical angles THE NOTWIST and MODERAT are probably the most successful indie live-acts from Germany on the international market at the moment. The concept behind this evening will make the differences between electronic and instrumental music disappear.
The London trio DARK SKY will present their debut album “imagine“ for the first time live in Berlin. Far more than a simple club act, they fit perfectly into this line-up.
We are happy to also welcome SIRIUSMO to the MONKEYTOWN FEST with one of his rare live sets, as well as a secret guest.
December the 5th will definitely be an outstanding night.

Get your limited edition Modeselektion Vol. 03 scarf now!
Made out of 100% cotton (75gsm), Black with Modeselektion Vol. 03 color print, size 1,50m x 1,50m.
It comes with an LP and 2EPs that are filled to the brim with exciting exclusive material from the hyperactive duo's favourites and a few very special newcomers.
The second installment of the Modeselektions EPs has a slightly more four to the floor flavored temper and also comes down more heavy on the vocal side.
Monkeytown's own Alex Banks delivers the energetic technoid "Be the One" featuring dubbed out vocals by Elisabeth Bernholz, his Beth Gibbons-esque collaborator.
French beat wizard Onra's "Blast" is slightly more Hip Hop flavoured and his fresh faced interpretation of a straight beat is the only instrumental on this EP.
German house hero Henrik Schwarz adds a touch of pop to this record, his " We are bankrupt" is essentialy a song written to swing on the dancefloor and this might
as well become the hymn of the financial crisis and this summer's festivals.
The last track on the EP features a special cooperation between Brandt Bauer Frick, Vic Mensa and Om ́mas Keith. "Jungle Love" is a genre defying dark bender of a song that jams all over Hip Hop, Techno, Soul, Swing and Noise.
Modeselektion Vol. 03 (MTR045)
The first EP features the cream of the crop of the bass heavy dancefloor flavoured tunes with Nighslugs own L-Vis 1990, notorious Munich duo Schlachthofbronx feat. Buraka Som Sistema, Ninja Tunes' Illum Sphere and ClekClekBoom resident French Fries. Out now!
All other formats are ready for pre-order HERE.

The latest buzzword making the rounds among the cultural cognoscenti: curation. And while we try to steer clear of hackneyed fads, this one almost slipped the net waxing lyrical about Modeselektor’s Modeselektion Vol. 03. Dodging the tried-and-tested approach of calling a few mates, bagging some shelved tunes, slapping it all together and unleashing the result on the unsuspecting masses, this one is actually all about the art of selection. About careful consideration, motivation, choice, process – that is, a pretty elaborate labour of love that hides intense effort under free-flowing, seamless sounds that sneak up on the ears to broaden our collective horizon.
Modeselektion Vol. 03 is a prime example of this painstaking process – boasting buckets of strictly exclusive tracks, once again hand-picked by Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary. By now, their Modeselektion hall of fame not only features the cute monkey covers and tracklists of Vol. 1 (2010) and Vol. 02 (2012), but als quite a few festival posters and AAA passes that highlight the concept’s live appeal – a. o. at Melt! Festival, UK’s The Warehouse Project and Bloc festival or Geneva’s Electron festival ... Whether on vinyl or on stage, any Modeselektion “boils down to whatever we think is hot”, explains Gernot Bronsert. “We suffer from constant music overload, so we use Modeselektion to channel the best of these tunes for the outside world.”
Beyond the Souleyman edit, Modeselektion Vol. 03 does not feature any original tracks by our dynamic duo – there was already more than enough greatness to spread by old and new friends. The whole sonic special is available as a double CD, a digital bundle and a slightly slimmed down double 12” plus two vinyl EPs. 19 sweet treats from Modeselektor, guarded by an equally delectable pineapple monkey.
